ABOUT USMenu

Where we are going

The main goal set by the Ingenio San Isidro is to achieve production diversification from its raw material – sugar cane –, incorporating the latest technologies and staff continuous training in order to achieve excellence in the products.

The path developed in the production of organic sugar cane generated at the same time our concern regarding social issues. The quality obtained in our organic sugar mill broadly meets the highly demanding international standards in this area, which has allowed us entrance to markets such as United States, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, Japan, Israel and New Zealand, among others.

Where we are

The Ingenio San Isidro is located in the north of Argentina, in the town of Campo Santo, Department of General Güemes, 45 km from the capital of the province of Salta. Their lands are crossed by the domestic routes 9 and 34.

National Route 9 links the province of Salta and the north of the country with Chile, through the passage of Sico. The National Highway 34 connects the region to the north with Bolivia through the passes of Agua Blanca and Salvador Maza, and with Chile through the passage of Jama; on the east it connects with the northeast, therefore with Paraguay and Brazil, and on the south with the rest of the country.

In the town of Güemes there is a railway junction that allows transit to the north of the country and Bolivia, and on the west side to Chile.

HISTORY Go up

We are the oldest sugar mill in Argentina

The Ingenio San Isidro was founded in 1760 by the royal militia colonel Juan Adrián Fernández Cornejo, who introduced the sugar cane from Peru, installing its first mill and giving rise to the oldest sugar mill in Argentina.

Sugar production In the early days was rustic. It was obtained from the crystallization of the boiled broth from the sugar cane juice and the mill was moved by animal power.

The sugar complex has 11 thousand hectares of land, of which 3,500 are for the production of sugar cane and the rest is natural forest and land suitable for the development of livestock projects.

The sugar factory has an installed capacity to process between 3,600 to 4,000 tons of cane per day, with a daily production of 360 to 400 tons of sugar.

The mill has additionally an ethylic and anhydrous alcohol distillery with a production capacity of 60,000 liters per day. It also has a tank farm for storage of 8,000,000 liters of alcohol.

Our production

Ingenio San Isidro has made significant investments in the sugar factory and alcohol distillery, incorporating latest technology equipment which has made possible the increase of our daily production capacity, improving the final quality of our products.

Organic production has prompted us to conduct continuous study and research in improving the cultivation tasks and the production of organic fertilizer, which in turn help us obtain higher productivity in the planted areas.

White sugar and raw sugar: White sugar is produced by the mill from conventional sugar cane, it has a purity of 99,8%, and is intended for domestic market. Raw sugar, with a purity of 96 to 98% sucrose, caters mainly to foreign markets for refining.

Molasses: This is a byproduct in the manufacture of sugar that can be used as human and/or livestock food or as raw material for the production of ethyl alcohol.

Syrup: This product is obtained by inversion of the sugar syrup and is used as sweetener in food products.

Alcohol: The alcohol is obtained from the fermentation of the molasses or the juice extracted from sugar cane. The quality of the alcohol obtained reaches 96% and is used for the manufacture of beverages, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, etc.

The anhydrous alcohol, with 99.9% alcohol content, is used preferably as fuel.

Organic sugar: It is obtained from organic farming that preserves soil fertility avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals. This allows for sustainable exploitation of resources and ensures the recovery and conservation of biodiversity.

Its properties are:

  • Natural flavor
  • Light brown color
  • No additives
  • More vitamins and minerals
  • Healthy food that is certified and guaranteed.

Mill and sugar Go up

Organic sugar has emerged in recent years with the purpose of reversing the degradation of natural resources generated by the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals and excessive soil tillage. This has led to the rescue of ancient methods of cultivation which consider new alternatives prioritizing environmental care.

In order to regulate eco-agricultural production, standards have been set that norm production systems and requirements for importing organic products through national and international institutions whose certifications are the basis for product’s reliability.

Argentina has been a pioneer in this area, as it was the first country to develop such official standards through the National Health and Food Quality Service (SENASA), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The International Agricultural Organization (OIA) is the entity expressly authorized by SENASA to certify all of our organic products. This certification has approvals from various world entities (EUREPGAP - USDA - NOP - BIOSUISSE - JAS) that regulate standards related to organic production. Furthermore, the Ingenio San Isidro has Kosher Certification for all its products.
